This is Why America's Internet Speeds are SO slow

Slide 1

Maybe you’ve already noticed.

Slide 2

American Internet speeds can be pretty slow.

Slide 3

In fact, the U.S. ranks behind 11 other countries for average speed!

Slide 5

So why do we fall behind so many other countries?

Slide 6

One major reason is that some governments more involved in their country’s Internet capabilities.

Slide 7

The South Korean government helped build out the nation’s broadband infrastructure and kept it open to lots of Internet providers.

Slide 8

So its citizens have the highest Internet speeds at some of the cheapest prices.

Slide 9

The U.S. government is trying encourage more competition too, sort of.

Slide 10

The Federal Communications Commission just redefined the minimum speeds for broadband Internet.

Slide 11

New standard vs. Old standard

Slide 12

The FCC wants to make the case that there aren’t enough broadband competitors.

Slide 13

Because under the new standard, many Americans only have one choice for broadband Internet -- Comcast.

Slide 14

The FCC wants the new minimum broadband speed to encourage providers to increase their Internet speed options.

Slide 15

It could also mean the proposed merger between Comcast and Time Warner Cable will be much harder to gain approval.

Slide 16

What it doesn’t mean is that America’s Internet speeds will start skyrocketing though.

Slide 17

The government would have to offer some sort of incentive for Internet providers to build more infrastructure and increase their Internet footprint for that.

Slide 18

And that’s not very likely.

Slide 19

So for now, Americans will have to settle for our current Internet speeds.

Slide 20

And hope for just a little more government interaction, and a lot more competition.

The $19 trillion industry could destroy the Internet One bleeding-edge technology is about to put the World-Wide-Web to bed. It could make early investors wildly rich. Experts are calling it the single largest business opportunity in the history of capitalism... The Economist is calling it "transformative"... But you’ll probably just call it "how I made my millions.” Don't be too late to the party — click here for 1 stock to own when the web goes dark. CLICK TO READ NOW
